My daughter and I

The friends who know us often make such commends when they see our sons. "The chips from the same block", "Like father like son.", when they see our daughter,"She is growing more and more like her mother."

Often parents are happy to these kind of comments, but to me, I have a bit worry deep in my heart. If like mother like daughter, we, my daughter and I, are not only alike from other, but also inside.

Once my own mother told me, "Wait until you have your own daughter to make you crazy." I must had not been a sweet girl so that she made this statement. But now I see what she meant.

My daughter Prisca is a very clever girl. When I first started to teach my elder son Paul to read at age of four, she was just sitting in inattentively. Before Paul could read, Prisca had learnt to read. Yet, it is her stubbornness that sometimes drives me crazy. I have to confess that it is from my side and I know fully now what my mother had gone through.

One day we went to airport to fetch Dad. I saw some police cars in front of. "Police car" as a parent, I often use Policeman to threat them to site properly. She stretched her neck tried to see, but could not see anything.

"You are just bluff la" She said

"No, it was true, they were at two or three traffic light in the front." I said

"Are you expect me to see that far? so stupid." She grumped.

By now, I have learnt to deal with her.

"Isn't that rude to call your mother stupid. Can't you use some better words?" I said calmly.

She felt a bit shy, but insisted, "How about crazy, unsound, ridiculous?"

I laughed "No, not good enough"

She said, "Ok, Apa kamu gila." she just learnt it from school, and I don't know what it meant.

(later, my Indonesia maid told me that it means "You are crazy")

She was happy again.

See that is my "gila" daughter.

My daughter is going to be eight this weekend. I am grateful for her, at the same time, now you know why I have to pray hard......

Happy Birthday, My Daughter Prisca
