Primary School Registration

It must be one of most stressful experiences for parents in Singapore in primary school registration. I can think of no other countries of the same experience.

You may surprise, parents in Singapore have a very long planning. A friend of mine, who has a daughter, has planning to rent a home within 1 km of the school which she hopes her daughter will get in. And her daughter is two years old.

Many others find to be school volunteer certainly helpful. 40 hours volunteering, if it will bring a place in one of choices prestigious school, doesn't sound a bad deal at all. Others, if they don't have siblings or old boys and girls or church affiliation, will have only to depend on balloting. That can be an intense experience, if you don't copy well.

My first two children were homeschooling till they reach P3 and P1, we don't have any other choice, just following the MOE' assigning to a school nearby.

Now it is my third child Noah's turn. The nearest school is River Valley Primary, and the next nearest one is Anglo Chinese Primary School. The first one we are within 1 km and the second one we are within 2 km.

It is hard choice indeed, finally, we decide to go for ACS. The first day of 2c phrase I was there early, outside the general office, there were about 50 anxious parents. I met a lady who has only boy and really wanted to let her boy in ACS. Her home is within 2 km. We wished each other that we could all get a place for our sons.

Thursday afternoon, I called up ACS and was told that there will be balloting for within 2 km, there are 12 place left and 16 children registered.

So the trial is not ending till Aug 7. What can we do?

Pray, if it is God's will, may God grant a place for Noah. We hope the best for our children, but only God can give the best!
