My daughter and I

The friends who know us often make such commends when they see our sons. "The chips from the same block", "Like father like son.", when they see our daughter,"She is growing more and more like her mother."

Often parents are happy to these kind of comments, but to me, I have a bit worry deep in my heart. If like mother like daughter, we, my daughter and I, are not only alike from other, but also inside.

Once my own mother told me, "Wait until you have your own daughter to make you crazy." I must had not been a sweet girl so that she made this statement. But now I see what she meant.

My daughter Prisca is a very clever girl. When I first started to teach my elder son Paul to read at age of four, she was just sitting in inattentively. Before Paul could read, Prisca had learnt to read. Yet, it is her stubbornness that sometimes drives me crazy. I have to confess that it is from my side and I know fully now what my mother had gone through.

One day we went to airport to fetch Dad. I saw some police cars in front of. "Police car" as a parent, I often use Policeman to threat them to site properly. She stretched her neck tried to see, but could not see anything.

"You are just bluff la" She said

"No, it was true, they were at two or three traffic light in the front." I said

"Are you expect me to see that far? so stupid." She grumped.

By now, I have learnt to deal with her.

"Isn't that rude to call your mother stupid. Can't you use some better words?" I said calmly.

She felt a bit shy, but insisted, "How about crazy, unsound, ridiculous?"

I laughed "No, not good enough"

She said, "Ok, Apa kamu gila." she just learnt it from school, and I don't know what it meant.

(later, my Indonesia maid told me that it means "You are crazy")

She was happy again.

See that is my "gila" daughter.

My daughter is going to be eight this weekend. I am grateful for her, at the same time, now you know why I have to pray hard......

Happy Birthday, My Daughter Prisca

my daugther's letter

After I came back from some errants, Paul, the oldest one, complained to me that Prisca was very naughty and kicked Noah down from chair. I asked Prisca what happened and she admitted the wrong doings. We went to the room and had a session of discipline, then I asked her to write down what she had done wrong and what she should do in the future.

This is the letter she gave to me.

"Dear Mummy:

Today, when we were eating dinner, I behaved in a naughty manner. I kicked Noah down the chair, however, Paul used his blowpipe to shot everybody.

From Prisca

PS I promise never to bully anybody again

PS Thing that Paul did:
1. He used the blowpipe to shot to everyone

Things I did wrong:
1. Kick Noah
2. Naughty

The end"

You can see here, in her own way, she sought to point figure to her older brother, who, of course I know, is not an angle.

She is the only girl among three boys, often time, she complains being bullied and ostracised by brothers. At the same time, she is not very knee to play with other girls. "sign" I wish I could do more for her. I do need God's wisdom in dealing with her.

My daughter's fall

Last Sunday, my husband and I ran to supermarket for some errands. Children went down to playground. My maid was with them.

Half way we received the call from them "Prisca had a fall".

We rushed home and came to know that they were pushing one another and Paul, being the strongest, pushed Prisca down from the slide. "What was Elf, (my maid) doing?"
"she was talking with other maids". I gave Paul several good canes. and scolded both Noah and Prisca.

Later we brought Prisca to see doctors and found she had multiple fractures. She was put on cast and would not go to school for at least one week. She should not go to playground for at least two months.

When this kind of thing happens, naturally our reactions is angry and fault finding. But we also know that this is the accident can happen to anyone under any circumstance. To be angry and blame others do not the suffering that Prisca is going through. We are just grateful that the worse could have happened and hope that both our maid and our children will learn a good lesson from it.
