Auntie Shirley

My husband's aunt Shirley passed away barely two weeks ago. Though I do not know her well, (she was overseas most of time), I will remember her for the rest of my life from our a brief encounter with her.
That was almost ten years ago. I just got married and moved to my husband's home country. We attended a family party where for the first time I met Auntie Shirley. she and one of her friends, joined in our conversation. After brief greeting and introduction, her friend asked me where I come from (for quite obviously, I looked like a foreigner). After I replied her, she made an astonish remark "oh, girls from xxx country are all gold miners". I was shocked by this kind of ungracious words and felt outraged and yet, did not know what to say. Auntie Shirley, calmly picked up and said:"Of course, not all of them, and I think, Robin is a sensible one." Her friend then realized of her unintended rudeness and apologized to me. I was grateful for Auntie Shirley's kind words, even though she did not know me either.
Now, I recall this and Auntie Shirley still with thankfulness. I am always reminded by her to show kindness and care in any small way. May God bless her soul

Little Things

Julia Carney
little drops of water,
little grains of sand,
Make the mighty ocean
And the beauteous land.

And the little moments
Humble though they be
Make the mighty ages
Of eternity.

So our little errors
Lead the soul away,
From the paths of virtue
Into sin to stray

Little deeds of kindness
Little words of love
Make our earth an Eden
Like the heaven above"
