YOG Singapore 2010

"From YOG official website:-",

The future of women's swimming revealed itself at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games - and that future has a Chinese face.

China's women won a total of 11 medals, while individually, Tang Yi and Liu Lan won more gold medals than any other competing NOC.

Tang led everyone with her haul of six gold medals, and seems to have a limitless future. She dominated the youth women's freestyle, winning the 50m, 100m and 200m events as well as the youth women's 4x100 freestyle and the mixed 4x100 freestyle relay races.

"The ambience of the audience and the loudness (of the crowd) really motivates me to do my best," Tang said after winning the 200m freestyle.

"I'm actually quite happy, but I can always do better."

Liu was just behind Tang, winning five gold medals and six overall, including gold in the youth women's 50m and 100m butterfly. Backstroke specialist Bai Anqi also took home four gold medals, including the 200m backstroke.

While China's young women were impressive in the Singapore Sports School pool, they were far from the only story at the inaugural Youth Games. As good as the entire China team was - He Jianbin and Dai Jun also won gold in youth men's events - Australia surprised by winning the most total medals of any team with 16.
