Allergy to "lost things"

Early in the morning, children were at usual morning rush to catch school bus, my daughter suddenly came to ask "Daddy, remember last Saturday we went to library, did you keep my ezlink card?"

After a frantic search in vain, she burst into tears, and I was under "allergic attack" of "lost things" syndrome.

It is not uncommon for children losing their things, in fact, it will be unusual if one week I would not look for somethings they lost. Books, stationary, file, notes, wallets, water-bottles, lunch box, glasses...almost everything they have.

I realize I have developed allergy to "lost things", whenever one of them tells me "mommy, do you know where is my...." or "Mommy, I forget where is my..." I can feel the attack coming, for me, that will be high blood pressure, angry feeling and the urge to scold and scream.

I suffered a few times of bad attacks where I felt I quite lost control...

That morning was one of those moments.

This was the second time my daughter lost her ezlink card. The first time, she said she forget it in school canteen, I finally had to go to MRT station to get a replacement for her, without ezlink card, she cannot borrow books, and she loves reading books... I told her to be careful of her things and warned her I won't replace for her if she loses again.

My husband was trying to comfort her, at the same time to cool me down. I was really feeling very annoying.

Later that day, I phoned the library, and the supermarket, (after library, they went to supermarket) and was clinging a tiny hope that someone might find it....

She came home from school, usually quiet. I told her that I am sorry for my attitude but I made it clearly, if it is not found, she has to bear the consequence and I won't replace for her.

I believe that she feels it.

Today, as I fetched boys home, they were quarrelling about somethings and, I ordered them to "keep silence", for the sake of my sanity.

Noah suddenly shouted "Mum, I have to talk for something really important."

"Okay, what?"

"I found Prisca's ezlink card behind the baby car seat." He announced triumphantly.

"oh, you did?" I was so touched "You are a hero."

God is kind, ultimately he allows these "allergic attacks" for our good.
